The UK version of start-page was developed as a standard on which an American edition could be economically and quickly created. You will see if you look at the UK edition that for each topic the UK entries are in a table followed y USA entries followed by others. Therefore for most classifications it is only a mater of slight reordering of blocks of data that is required. From this you will see that the production of a USA version of start-page will not present any difficulty.
It is planned that the USA version will be directly accessed from start-page.org (this system) and the current home page of this system will be the top choice on the friendly system menus. The UK and USA editions can also be accessed by adding the country to start-page .org for example the UK edition start-page.org/uk. Local editions can also be branded as required for the market.
We have not set a timescale for the USA edition, concentrating on getting the UK version right first.
Development of versions for other countries is more complex than the UK and USA editions and will require a local partner to manage the project. It will involve promoting the project and getting editors who will go through each classification, reordering the information. We will be able to do all programming and design work and provide a lot of help. We have no objection to other language versions but it will require a local partner who will undertake all translation and checking.
We have set no timetable for this, it really all comes down to finding the right local partners who can both see the potential and convince us that they have the commitment necessary.
We will need a number of extra editors interested in each national marketplace, and in many professions and local areas.
We will also at some point be looking for national partners to run the whole project relevant to the country or area including the advertising sales and Public relations.
